Affiliate with some fly-by-night companies
I was appalled to see an "AARP endorsed" come on sent to my disabled elderly neighbor. When I read the details, it was clear that the service was for something that really didn't cover anything, that has a bunch of exclusions and was confusing and pricy for what it offered. This company was preying on the elderly and hiding under the respected name of AARP. I feel that AARP probably used to be good, but now they will sell their endorsement and prostitute their reputation to any company waving enough money in front of their face. This is not serving or protecting the target audience of AARP. I will not be joining when my time comes. I think they sell their membership list to any company that pays a fee and they don't investigate the companies using their name to sell products to seniors.Anonymous-108172.... April 17th, 2013
My wife & I were sold an AARP hospitalization policy to suppliment our health insurance. The agent who called us said it would cover 10% of our Hospital medical bills for $39 per month. We paid on this policy for over 8 years, nearly $4000 was paid out of our pockets. End of last year my wife had a knee replacement. My main health insurance covered all but $2900. AARP would only pay $80/day of her hospital bill or $160. Dont let AARP Health Insurance pick your pocket like they did mine. Angry

Trusted
My mother-in-law has AARP and she has had all good interactions with them. I had to call them once for her when she was ill and they are very kind and helpful. They also act quickly if there is ever a problem. If I need AARP in the future, I will for sure use them!nadeyus.... November 2nd, 2012

Money hungry
I really think over the years these people have managed to slander their good name by being downright money hungry. I will not recommend anyone to affiliate with these people and I'm never using them again.Steveo9632000.... February 17th, 2012
AARP: A Helping Hand
AARP is a well established company, they have outstanding customer support and the people that work there generally sound like they do want to help their customers with their health insurance and making sure that they have funds in place to help them and their family in the future. Highly recommend working with them.stretchntug.... October 18th, 2011

unethical
AARP -Complaint over Billing Practices ONLY: Membership fee is not due until Dec 2012, however AARP's 1st invoice arrived 3/1/2011. As in past billing cycles, I expect they will mail this "fake" invoice stating "reply by May 31, 2011" every 2 to 3 months (just changing the reply by date each time) until long after I pay the renewal in Nov 2012. This is unethical...preying on the elderly. Many seniors trust AARP and probably pay every invoice that comes in, thinking it is due. How much unearned cash does AARP make on these "fake" invoices? Have written repeatedly to AARP about the issue, to no avail. This time, have filed a complaint with BBB.

Helpful and a good value
For its very modest membership fee, AARP supplies much helpful and interesting information in its two periodicals, and on many issues does a good job representing the interests of folks in its demographic. Unfortunately it's apparently captive to its relationships with insurance companies, most noticeably in in its otherwise inexplicable failure to even mention single-payer in its discussions of health reform options (when that issue was a major topic before the passage of the new health care act). Single-payer health care, as any objective investigation would disclose, would enable true universal coverage for no more than the cost of current health care. But it would severely diminish the need for commercial health insurance -- and that was apparently what was of most importance to AARP.pellkiness.... April 4th, 2011
