I have owned a 325i z3 and several other BMWs and never experienced the ridiculous wear and tear on tires as I have with my 2011 128 series. In less than 20,000 miles I have replaced the rear tires and the front tires. My wife drives aprox 20 miles to work, she is a school teacher, and its all hwy. driving. I would not recommend this model to anyone ever!

I purchased a brand new 1 series BMW (Auto) from Auto Glen BMW in Oakdene Johannesburg in July 2012. Although the sales process was without flaw (usually the case when you present a dealer with a cash cheque), I would like to share my experience in term of after service …

On 15 September 2012 I suspected a low engine oil level (as the dipstick of my vehicle indicated such, whilst the warning light did not concur this) and took my new vehicle for a check at Auto Glen (Oakene, Johannesburg) shortly after. They confirmed that the levels were low, and topped it up accordingly. Following this my vehicle started smoking excessively, and I attempted to bring my vehicle in for yet another check. AutoGlen did not show willingness or a matter of urgency in this matter and suggested that I make a booking and return the vehicle for yet another repair call (lead time was indicated at around 2 days)

I was hesitant as to wait this long and contacted Alberante Motors who insisted that the vehicle be brought in immediately as the probable cause would be too much oil, which could be detrimental to the engine itself. This was done, and it was determined that the oil system was overfilled by AutoGlen by around 2/2.5 litres (so I was told). It was subsequently drained.

I was told to and checked the vehicle the following morning (once the vehicle had been be stationary for a few hours), and found that the oil level was slightly high (according to the dipstick), returned to Alberante (my third call), who yet again drained oil to what was believed to be the correct level.

This seemed to have concluded this issue, but in a second instance soon after, the fuel injector packed up. The system indicated "check drive train" and would only operate in "limbo mode" . I took the vehicle back to AutoGlen (the original seller), which subsequently booked the vehicle in for 4 days (over a weekend). This concluded my fourth service call in three months.

Over the last 2 weeks (January 2013/6months old/7000km) my vehicle started to smoke again on cold engine start/pull off. A cloud of blue smoke (not vapour as it occurs on cold days) as would be expected from a diesel engine is visible intermittently, each time when pulling off. It also indicated that my rear brakes needed attention and that I needed to book in my vehicle (it was also squeaking) . That, together with a delayed turbo which only kicks in after 3000rpm, has now reached the point of utmost annoyance and I yet again confronted Auto Glen with my issues.

As always, I was met with the now expected laid back attitude and was instructed to bring my vehicle in the following week (14 January) to rectify these issues and some minor issues ito wind noise.

Although annoying, the mere incident (considering that this would be my 5th service call in 6 months) did not grieve me as much as what sufficed as result of this. In a nutshell, my experience -

1) Not until 15:30 on day one was I ever informed that I needed to make alternative arrangements in terms of transport. I personally had to phone to enquire and was only advised on my second attempt.
2) Again on day two I had to personally phone in the afternoon to enquire, as no one bothered to inform an admittedly and obviously disgruntled client. I phoned 3 times, each time promised by Carlos (and others) that they’d phone me back instantly. Only when an hour passed, would I try again, just to be faced with the same story… Eventually at 16:45 I was told that my vehicle is ready for collection.
3) No fault was found on my vehicle ito the smoking of the vehicle insinuating that it is “normal”… really how can a smoking petrol vehicle be normal?
4) No fault was found ito the turbo lag…so you’re telling me that it is normal for a turbo to only kick in at 3000rpm whilst similar vehicles from their dealership floor/demo shows different?
5) The brakes were apparently fine, but 'dry' and needed to be lubricated, soming in the lines of "copperslip" or similar.
6) When graced with the return of my vehicle I was faced with a dented left fender! Fortunately I declined in signing the release before physically checking my car, and as result the vehicle had to remain at the workshop, yet again
7) Five days and two attempts later to repair the fender my vehicle was returned to me. The dent had been repaired, albeit not perfect with no hope doing so. I now have to make peace with the fact that I just have to "live with it" and hope that it would in no way affect my resale value, as they assured. That together with R500 of my petrol wasted on their round trips.

Although I am not oblivious to the fact that "stuff happens" I would like voice my utter disappointment in terms of how the entire situation was handled by AutoGlen and BMW South Africa. During the entire process I was basically left in the dark. Unless I physically phoned, nobody bothered to keep me informed. E-mails to the branch, DP, BMW central and so called client service managers are ignored, despite requests to please respond to my e-mails. To date BMW themselves has just not bothered to even acknowledge my e-mails or return my phone calls.

Although I do have my vehicle back, I have vouched to never deal with AutoGlen again.

To be honest the mere thought of EVER having to address BMW in a whole puts a hollow feeling in my stomach, as BMW themselves really don’t give a hoot (evident from their lack of response) ito my entire experience.

Because of the combined unprofessional service level, laid back attitude and disregard for client satisfaction - my brakes still "squeaks", the vehicle still smokes and turbo still lags. All I have to show ito the entire exercise is a damaged vehicle, and empty tank.

The most atrocious car ever purchased in my life.... They fleece you at every step, have an absolute horrible quality you can think off, irresponsible customer service and a total loot in every single part they change in the car....

Never ever buy this brand.. I wonder why and how it sells overseas with such kind of quality and standards !!

I bought a 2011 X3 last year.
LOVE the way it rides & handles. But a a premium car it FAILS in driver convenience.
1. In most cars (not only luxury) when you push Start to shut it down either everything turns off OR everything turns off when drivers door is opened. In my BMW radio & electronics will stay on for something like 4-7 minutes? WHAT? Who sits in their car for 4-7 minutes EACH TIME the shut the engine off? NOBODY!
And what's with the door locks that you have to pull twice?
Also on my Mercedes when you open the Driver's door all doors & trunks unlock.
In my BMW you have to push the button on the dash to unlock all buttons.
So I think the BMW engineers are just "Button happy". Making the driver push the start button twice when shutting down pulling the door handle twice to get out, push another button to open all doors.
I mean seriously, can you BMW engineers take a hint from THE REST OF THE AUTO WORLD?
Lastly my automatic headlights have started coming on on bright sunny days instead of running lights.
I took it into service & they told me it's "problem" in the design that causes the lights to come on during this time of year.
He blew smoke up my but about angle of the sun, yadda, yadda.
I guess Chevy, Lexus, Toyota & ALL other car makers can make their auto lights work but BMW engineers are too busy trying to find new buttons for drivers to push multiple times/
BMW again. Not if they dropped the [price to that of a Chevy.

So, if you've ever dreamed of owning a BMW, you may want to change it. I finally purchased a 330xi and have had nothing but problems. Mirrors are rusting, paint is chipping, BMW emblem is almost gone, my dashboard lights up like a christmas tree with nothing wrong according to BMW mechanics. I go in to have something looked at and consistently get a quote between $3000-$5000 worth of everything else that is wrong. Very disappointed.

I agree, the quality of BMWs has not kept pace with technology. I had a 2006 Peugeot 407 which I absolutely loved. I thought I was upgrading when I purchased a 2006 BMW 523i. How wrong I was was. The list of features I loved in the Peugeot that were not available in the BMW is too long to list here. Not only that, but the BMW has had more problems that I can remember and each costs a small fortune to fix.

Never again BMW! They have sucked since the turn of the century.

I own a 2012 BMW 135i and it only have a little bit more of 800 miles the leather on the driver seat the leather is starting to deteriorate in one spot I took it to the bmw dealer and the said is my fault because of the rubbing of my jeans pant when I seat but I own other cars for years and I never had that problem.I strongly believe that BMW use cheap materials to built theirs car and then they just simply don't want to honor the warranty. I never going to buy a BMW again, expensive car cheap construction.

Regarding my 650. There is no other car that controls and manages speed better than this car.

.... December 19th, 2011

I'll never buy a BMW again. Nothing but cheap materials and lame excuses. I've had 6 cars and never have I had the problems I've had with this BMW. The car radio broke, had to be replaced. The cheap plastic clips inside the door broke and the window fell in, the sun visor broke , the lower trim paint ( which was supposed to be guaranteed) peeled, the inside plastic trim broke, I could go on & on. Every time the answer I got from the dealer was "well it's the age of the car or it wore out from use" Bull, It's the cheap materials used in the making of the car.

Don't buy a BMW vehicle EVER!!!! I have owned 2 in the last 10 years and both vehicles have drained me of thousands in repair bills. BMW has effectively convinced buyers that theirs is a superior machine but the truth is they spend more time being repaired than on the road. It's all good until the warranty runs out....then it's not long until the nightmares begin!!

To A BMW Representative

I have just purchase a 2007 BMW x3 3.0si back in March of this year(2011), and already the Driving Stability Control System is causing me problems. Cominig home from work the another day(12/02/2011) I expereince something with this automobile that I have never experience with any other automobile that I have own in the last forty years. My brake wouldn't function ,after, the 4x4 light indicator came "ON" giving me the power to travel through the ice and snow. I got to the traffic light and my vehilce brakes lock-up. This cause my automobile to go straight though the traffic light without stopping. I have NEVER experience an automobile that would put my life in DANGER like this particular vehilce. I very disappoint in type a performance of this new purchase. the VIN Number on this automobile is WBXPC93427WF19850. I would like to know if BMW is aware of the defect in the driving Stability Control System that exist of this automobile.. NO automobile should ever stop functions to the point where it would put someone LIFE in danger. I won't drive this vehicle ,until, I find out if BMW is aware of the fact that this SUV x3 3.0i has this kind of problem. Like I have stated earlier I have driven an automobile for over forty years and I have NEVER had a vehilce that would endanger someone Life. Please contact me for further information concerning this unsafe automobile.

Murray was aware of this problem ,but NEVER indicated to the owner of this vehicle that I would be in any DANGER other then the fact that maybe the Driving Stability Control Systems might need to be replaced in the future. I could have physical lost my life driving this automobile or cause someone, else, to loose their life. Why is that BMW hasn't inform the public about the DEFECT that the braking system has if the 4x4 light indicator come "ON" during the performace of this malfunctioning System. Please answer my question?? I am outrage that BMW would put people lives in danger with a system that would malfunction in this matter.

To whom it may concern... I just sent this mail to Roseville BMW... My BMW 330i is a fun car, looks beautiful an has been extreemely well maintained... It is in excellent condition, yet it is a mechanical and electrical nightmare... Read below and really think long and hard before you buy a BMW... If you do, never keep it when the warranty expires - Nightmare!

I purchased my '06 330i from Roseville BMW. I purchased the extended maintenance contract, but somehow believed I was buying a high quality car made to precise standards by German engineers. This car has been a nightmare... Many electrical problems from, requiring a new steering column, to windows ceasing to work, right down to the locks all ceasing to function. Add to that, broken window button costing >$400 and now a failed water pump and water temp sensing unit that will cost >$1750 to replace. This car has only 65K riginal miles, what a disaster! Does anyone at BMW have the integrity to stand up and state that this car is a giant hunk of junk and determine the appropriate next step actions to keep a vaued customer? If I really can expect this sort of trouble from my BWM at 65K miles, I will never buy a BMW again... To note, I had a 320i years ago that also had horrible electrical issues and I stayed away from BMW for 15 years... Somehow I believed that was enough time to figure out how to engineer a car that actually stays on the road vs. sitting in a shop costing $1000's to get it back on the road. Who do I need to speak to that can provide a rationale reason why a 5 year old BMW with 65K has a water pump and temp sensor failure? Given the history of multiple electrical system failures with this BMW 330i, I can not believe that this failure isn't somehow related to the horrendous electrical system! Someone please explain? The service writer said, "I don't know, sometimes this happens?... Some cars last, some just have lots of issues". Then he gave me the 800 831 1117 number to talk to someone else who may or may not do anything to help with this lemon of a BMW. I am truly at the end of my rope here. Given this cars history, I have no real option but to unload it to some unsuspecting schmuck and buy a new vehicle... Why would I buy another BMW given the histroy of this vehicle? Someone tell me the answer to that question please? Else, I unload and head over to lexus or Acura for my new vehicle.

I purchased my 2001 325i new. I've had repeated problems with the car overheating and just cutting off. I've had my thermostat and various fans replaced. In the past 5 years, I've spent at least $4000 on these related repairs alone. No one can seem to identify the true root cause of the problem. Prior to having the BMW, I've had Toyotas and Honda (total 3 cars). The repairs on the BMW outweighs the total combined expenses for my previous car. Granted I've put ~180,000 miles on the car, but have been diligent with service. Aren't these cars suppose to take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. Customer service has been none responsive. Has there been a recall and I didn't get the memo. at this point, the car has got to go. I would definitely not recommend this luxury car to anyone.

What a mistake I made in 2006 buying what I thought to be a nice luxury auto a useless BMW325i I have never seen such a pile of (sh-t) The coatings on the interior peel and fall off The steering wheel coatings peel and fall off exterior trim falls off Headlite lenses fog up I would have been much better off buying a chevy than this pile of junk I think the germans should take a close look at what they call the ultimate driving machine

I will NEVER BUY another BMW again!!! The cars are cheaply made and they don't stand behind their product! I have a 2006 325I with only 40k miles and it has 2 broken head bolts with no oil leaking. BMW is refusing to cover the expense to fix this problem!! The engine is barely broken in. My husband is in the market to buy a new car and was looking at the X5's, but after this situation, we will NEVER buy another beamer again! Customer service is unhelpful, and the dealership has done nothing to stand behind this problem either. I am one very, unsatisfied, deeply disappointed customer.

The worst in 12 years; Port Chester; took my car @ 8:30; called me at one stating something about a light on I never said a light was on charged me 560 for what I don't know because they called me again after 3pm said your car would be ready in half hour then said come before 4 I get there still the service guy is rushing to type up paperwork and then rushing me over to cashier I check the paper work after I leave and see I am charged for something I never requested. They didn't even wash the car they had no time. AND NOW I AM MISSING A HUB CAB. The best I got to the web page and there is a coupon for the service I had done. NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO TO PORT CHESTER

In Feb 2011 I had my first experience w/BMW CS. The experience was very frustrating and dissappointing to me. The call to BMW CS was to ask for their help in getting a BMW tech/engineer to reply to an email from my local dealership service dept. The CS rep put me on hold as soon as they answered the phone. Once off hold and after explaining my problem the CS rep needed to transfer me to the CS Mgr which again required that I be put on hold for longer than I had expected. The CS Mgr did nothing other than listen to me once again explain my situation, state that she could not contact the BMW Tech/engineer and that the contact had to come from the local dealership. With my permission she put me on hold and contacted the dealership asking them to call me. Within minutes the BMW Service MGR called and stated that he got a call from CS asking him to call me. He stataed that he didn't know why he was being asked to call me and he didn't know who it was from CS that called him. For a third time in one hour I had to repeat my situation. I was on the phone for over an hour and got no further than where I was before calling CS. I myself had to make a second call to CS and a second call to the dealership (Sales Mgr) before I was able to get any action on my service complaint. For me the call to BMW CS was useless and a waste of my time. I am on my third BMW and I am very disappointed with my current BMW and with my 1st experience with BMW CS.
