Cox Reviews

Cox Communications is a joke. They monopolize the market in Las Vegas, NV and they know it. Everything is overpriced, they bill for things and do not warn you about it and the customer service is horrible. Last year we had random PPV charges on our bill anything from Adult Movies to Kid Movies. These were supposedly ordered from the box in our living room. At the time that TV was mainly used by our kids and mostly on the Disney Channel. The best part, the movies were ordered when we were not home. We contacted Cox and they would do nothing to fix it. The tech that came out said that things like this happen sometimes and the reps denied it. Now we have moved. We called and said we needed our service to be transferred. There was nothing said about fees or set-up charges. All they have to do is change the address. The Tech came out and we realized that in our new home some rooms did not have Cable. We agreed to pay $30 for each room that needed cable. We have a basement that had a line already running in it but the cable was cut and just needed the metal tip put on it. He set up the rooms, did not fix the cable in the basement and took hours to do so. My father has run cables, phone lines and fiber optics for years. I know from working with him how long it takes. Now we get our bill and there are lists of transfer fees, setup fees and more. Our normal bill is a little under 200, for cable (NO MOVIE CHANNELS) and high speed internet, already ridiculous, right? Now our bill is over $400 with all these charges that we were not told about. I am so fed up with Cox but I am worried that DISH and Direxct TV will be the same. Problem is COX is the only one that provides the internet speed we need in our home. I wish that another company would come in and offer the same services at a lower rate and shut COX down. They do not care that the majority of Americans are struggling financially. I go to school on-line and need the internet. I like watching the news and keeping up to date on what is going on in the world and my kids like to be able to watch TV. Because Rabbit Ears do not work I am stuck paying for COX. The HD attena barely gets any channels and it does not always work properly. Part of it is the governments fault for making everything digital. Prices soared after that. The sad part is nothing can be done at this point other than complaining.

I moved to Las Vegas from New York a year ago and subscribe to Cox TV, Internet, Phone services.

Cox's prices are VERY high for the services they offer, but it is my choice to pay the prices, so I am not taking off points for that.

I actually worked as a customer service rep for a cable company back in NY and know that many complaints are uncalled for. My complaints are about Cox business practices that I find unacceptable.

1) Customer service: For a huge nationwide company like Cox, why is their customer service not available 24/7. For any issues beyond general info, I need to take a day off of work to call them.

2) More customer service: With the exception of one extremely rude sales person, the customer service reps have been very nice and willing to help, but not very knowledgable and usually don't have an answer to my questions (whether questioned about technical aspects, billing, or services provided.)

3) Internet: Tiered internet pricing (i.e. charging different prices depending on what internet speed you want). They do this because the average person does not know how the system works. Once the cables have been put in place, it costs the company the same amount of money to provide internet no matter what speed they provide. They charge different prices and rip people off simply because they can.

4) Phone: Their phone service is internet based (VoIP). This means that, just like the tiered internet above, it costs them very little to provide since you already have internet. But they charge a monthly service fee, and then on top of that they charge per minute for calls (which makes absolutely no sense), and then you pay taxes and fees on top of that (I understand the taxes come from the gov't, however, VoIP phone service is just another thing offered over internet (like Skype) and therefore phone taxes do not apply to it.)

5) More Phone: They sold our number to tons of telemarketers. My wife and I do not use the phone much. We only gave it out to about 10 family and friends. We get more phone calls from telemarketers (approx 5 per day every day) than from people we know. Even 9 months after being on the federal do not call list and actively registering offending phone numbers with the government website.

6) Pricing: The whole "bundling" thing is purely a way to scam customers by making the options as confusing as possible so you never know what you're really paying. You're not paying for what you're getting, you're paying what they want. As an example, I called and asked about options: If I lower any of my current services, I will lose my "bundle" and they will raise my other two services so that I'm paying the same amount per month...so I would get less service for the same amount of money.

Pros:
TV: Tons of channels, DVR works, picture quality is good (non-HD).
Internet: Solid, fast, reliable, no caps (for now)...zero complaints.
Phone: No problems.

COX IS NOT YOUR FRIEND! From the customer service who has a detached robotic script...pretty much if you are a loyal customer...who cares. We only care about new customers...and only for 12 months.
