This is probably about my 6th KINDEL, Most of the time I would give it a 7.5 out of 10😀. I bought this one fresh from the factory the day in was out for public sale. It is the year model (2017). 😕 Sadly I have to give it a 5.
Most of the features are the same (and that is the good news). And my problems might just be with my particular KINDEL. Beginning with the keyboard; the data space (or whatever) that is associated with it is misaligned from day 1. There seems to be little clearly designated internal space for the alpha, numeral, symbol spaces, especially with the right side (in particular the letter l and symbol !),
the space board is to close. It often (7/10 times), clicks away from text completely, closing and mostly saving what you were typing.
I bought an SD card, once open the little door will not properly align. I ended up having to tape door shut. Which brings up another problem if the device gets hot, the tape loosens, the little door shifts and SD card pops up.
As I said all in all I like the device, (KINDEL) and would not hesitate to buy another in about 18 - 25 months, which is how long mine lasts. 😀

Here is an extract from my email to Amazon, they replied but did not offer to replace my kindle free or charge or refund for the books I purchased in last year which I did not even have a chance to read. Do not buy the Kindle, as it it over-priced and unreliable, you are better off with a cheaper e-reader.

To Amazon Customer Service:

I bought a kindle few years ago from Argos and paid more than £160 for it, after just a few days the screen froze, Argos refused to take it back and refused to repair it saying I damaged it myself by dropping it or something(which I didn't do). I called up Amazon and they agreed to take the defective kindle back and replace it.

Fast Forward around 2 years later and the same thing happened to the second kindle, again I am careful with my kindle and this happened one day without warning.

I googled around and apparently a lot of people have problems with frozen screens and a lot of them do get replacement screens from amazon, however some don't. This is my opinion about Kindle's problems and how Amazon deals with it.

Amazon obviously knows that the Kindle is not a robust product and the screen is bound to have problems in a totally random fashion without any relation to how old it is or how it is treated , they want people to keep using them as it generates a lot in book sales and they don't want their product to get a bad name, so in order to quickly pacify customers they replace a faulty one. However in cases like mine when they think people have owned their Kindles 'long enough' and hence do not deserve a replacement they offer a refurbished Kindle at a discount prize.

This is unfair to customers and unfair to retailers like Argos as we are not aware that the Kindle has a chance of malfunctioning anytime for no apparent reason. Amazon is not acknowledging the problems with Kindle. I am asking Amazon to acknowledge these problems with Kindle and give people and retailers adequate information about the problems the Kindle may encounter before they decide to purchase it.

I paid a lot of money for my kindle and thought I was getting a superior product for the extra money as opposed to a cheaper e-reader like kobo. Unfortunately this was not the case.

So far it works pretty good

I've had my kindle fire for a few months and its been pretty decent. Not much to complain about except for the really bad battery life :( it only lasts for a few hours before needing to be recharged again. The selection of books is really great though, and the prices are amazing!

Lacking some key features

I have both kindle and I pad the kindle has no way of going back to the previous page without pressing the off button navigating this device is complicated.recently while playing a game I accidentally press the more game button instead of putting me back into the game I was placed on amazon to purchase a game, imagine my anger. Up to now a week later all attempts to resolve this via amazon or the game maker has been fruitless.I will not accept a fire kindle not even for free. The design is not for consumers but rather made for amazon and other advertising .bodies to make money This device is NOT CONSUMER/USER FRIENDLY.good luck to those of you who will want to experience this nerve recking experience but as I was told what should I expect it was only a fire kindle.I gave kindle a try and they failed miserable. I will stick to my apple products .thanks for this expensive learning experience.By the way the rep who attempted to help was very courteous and professional she did her best.I would rate her a 4.,the kindle a-0

Not at all happy with my Kindle. This is my third one. I think every year the quality goes down. Have had problems since day one with this one. It is a replacement of the one before that just died. My first kindle lasted years. Quality is definitely gone.

I am disgusted with my kindle, after only two years it froze and now wont keep its charge. I am so sorry that i didnt buy a cheaper ebook reader if i knew i would be replacing them every two years. The worst is that by most of the comments found on the internet Amazon just doesnt give a fig. DO NOT BUY KINDLE

I had my kindle for less than a year and it completely went blank on me, wouldn't turn on even if plugged in. When plugged in the indicator light wouldn't even light up. So being under warranty, they sent me a replacement and it is working, but very slow to respond to anything. This is rediculous and I wish I would have read reviews before I bought it. I loved it when it did work but sooo not happy with the short term useage. Not all of us have money to keep buying new luxuries every year.... UGH!!!

Love

Just bought the kindle fire HD for my two oldest daughters. They love them. We bought the younger two leappads and the kindles were way easier to set up which is crazy. We love them.

My Kindle developed a supposedly "unfixable" problem about a day after the warranty expired. How covenient for them. Luckily, it was a gift, and I don't really need a Kindle, as I know how to read books. I will not buy into this racket.

kindle only works for abut a year before it dies like an old nokia (meaning it doesnt work without charging) in this day and age you would expect they'd be able to supply at least that? get the ipad mini.

Having been promised unlimited 3G access when I bought my Kindle in December 2011, I am perturbed to find that I have now been limited (unilaterall and without notice) to 50 mb per month! Kindle say they are entitled to do this. I don't agree.

I have been using my family's kindle fire and loved it. I had several great games going and a few other awesome apps so they went out and bought me my own and got a good deal on it too. Now here's my problem. I understand no longer selling a charger with it, you had to cut cost in order to give us such a good deal. Then the ads, they suck and now you must be making as much if not more then the 1st gen. but then you go and block the android app store I love so much and I'm stuck with a 130 dollar price of shot and I'm looking to find someone I can pay to root (jailbreak) my kindle fire. When I do I will never buy anything from amazon again. That was just dirty all around.

My husband bought me a Kindle Fire for Christmas specifically for me to take to the beach in October. We stay for one month & didn't want to take so many books. Guess what? You cannot read a Kindle Fire in the bright sun on a beach, not even under a cabana. I certainly wasn't told this when we purchased it. Tried to buy an old style Kindle because I had seen the screens on the beach but was told they had been pulled from the shelves because Kindle was introducing a new Kindle. What should I do now?

Same complaint as many others here: I've had two Kindle readers and both of them froze up and stopped working - the first four months after I bought it and the second within weeks of the warranty running out. I don't think this is a coincidence. Kindle readers are crap - don't buy one!

.... July 9th, 2012

I wanted an e-book reader, so foolishly I went for the most accesible and well known. Now I find out that Kindle will not let you borrow e-books from the library in the UK - ONLY the US. Also that you I can't loan books to friends with Kindle's in the UK - ONLY in the US. What a pile of rubbish I wish I'd done more research and bought Sony !!!!

.... May 2nd, 2012

I was given a Kindle as a present 18 months ago. It has packed up and doesn't work at all. I tried contacting both the uk an usa companies but the problem couldn't be resolved. They were very helpful though but as a product I would not recommend the kindle to anyone. My husband paid 150 pounds sterling and I have nothing to show for it. This includes all the books I bought and there are a few which I have not read. If I had known that the kindle was going to have such a short life span i would have bought a cheap ereader instead and accepted that it was cheap and would not have minded if it packed up. The kindle definitly does not live up to it's reputation and I would recommend that people thoroughly research all the other ereaders out there before they even consider the kindle

No strain in eyes

Amazon's kindle the ebook reader is so nice. With the eink display it doesn't give any strain to our eyes feels like we are reading any real book. I love this gadget.

I was reading a book on my wifes Kindle and thought it was good till i realized there are no page numbers and you can't get a page number...Can i ask what educated idiot would design something to read a book on without page numbers...was thinking about buying one for myself till I found this out..I will highly recomend to anyone going to buy one not too..Who knows what other things were left out in the design of this electronic device

.... June 14th, 2011

Customer service was wonderful. I explained how half of the screen had stopped working and there were white lines across it. The customer service representative expressed his sympathy and agreed to replace it under the original warranty. He also added free two day shipping, and then explained clearly and simply the process of returning my malfunctioning kindle. This is one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had.

Great product

I love my kindle. It is incredibly convenient, and you have immediate access to book right at your fingertips. It is easy to use, and the internet function comes in handy sometimes if you don't have access otherwise.

I am trying to return a kindle 1 battery and replace it with a kindle 2 battery.

I have tried amazon returns and keep getting the same questions over&over. there is no way to contact anyone in this organization.

I am VERY DISAPOINTED IN THE ASSISTANCE SAID TO BE PROVIDED.
