I've been a member of the Bristol Connecticut club for a year now. Several cable machines went off line in mid November and are still off line. The club manager stated this is a corporate issue and should be corrected by months end. Is this correct as I feel the equipment is not properly maintained.

I wish I read the reviews before I signed up for this unprofessional piece of junk!!! Been paying $230 a month for personal training and regular membership, from staff that don't know what they are doing to absolute horrible costumer service!!! Tried to cancel my automatic payments for 3 weeks ( my obligations and contract is finished) just to find out $200 came out again today!!! They better fix this

I used to go to the Pasadena facility on Lake St. It has become so outdated and in disrepair that is a disgrace to the company. The carpet is torn and filthy. The men's lockroom has disgusting lockers ( a lot of them are broken). As far as the equipment they are always under repair for long periods of time.

The la fitness center at Centereach n.y. has not had hot water in 3 weeks. This is very bad. On top of that it is not maintained. Very dirty. Paper all over the place. Not cleaned on the weekends

The club in the Century Mall (2828 N. Clark in Chicago il. Is bad. The staff is great abs very helpful. But, the machines are terrible. The stationary bikes. One, sometimes two of them don't even work. And, the ones that do. Rock side to side while riding on them. The Ellipticals, one might not work on any given day.
And, not the locker room. Some of the lockers where one puts the lock in. There broken. And the seats, benches. With my disability. It's difficult for me to take off and put on my shoes. I've already fallen once. And it took about 10 minutes for the staff to respond to me falling because the bench was NOT secured to the ground..
Now, the washrooms. The wheelchair stall is fine. But, the regular stall needs the "Get up bars" like the wheelchair stall already has in it.
The staff is ask them about this they still don't have any answers. And also I've heard for the past year about this club being redone and getting all new machines in but no one has any answers as to when.
On the subjects which I brought up and resolution on others that are very important to me. Like the benches in the locker rooms not being secured to the ground and also to the toilet not having disabled bars on it to help the elderly or disabled get up.
Please keep me informed on the progress that you're making so I may enjoy your club as many others do with disabilities and the elderly. Thank you for your attention to these subjects.

I am a member of LA Fitness in Smithtown NY. It is a pretty new facility and I do enjoy going there, however, it really is not being properly taken care of. The water fountains are not being wiped down, dirt is building up on some of the equipment, and the sanitary machines are starting to build up dirt. I hope that management can take care of this problem before it gets worse. I can only imagine what the condition of the swimming pool water is. I think
the Dept of Health does come in and check that. YUK!!

I have just moved to Deerfield Beach, Fl. I decided to try out the LA fitness in Deerfield Beach for a 1 month membership to see if I liked it before commiting to a contract. I was shocked how dirty the place is. Especially in So. Florida where it is hot out and people are sweating even when arriving I would think they would care more about cleaniness & dirt (bacteria, etc). I took the spinning class which I enjoyed a few times, then tried a yoga class (the mats and floor-so dirty, mats old, torn) then one day I decided to hit the pool. I just wanted to swim a few laps and was shocked as walked thru the locker room that the carpet was full of hairs, dirt and obviously not had carpet professional cleaned for years. Prob since it is a dark color they feel they dont need to. The pool was dirty on the bottom and titles had dirt stuck to the sides. As I sat in the jaccuzzi
and looked up I noticed the a/c vents FULL with dust, dirt & rusty. OMG disgusting. Not just one a/c vent ALL were clogged & full of dirt. There is no way good, clean air is coming out of those vents. After I went to take a shower, the first shower on the end had a drained clogged with hairs & dirt..the shower curtain was old, torn & rusty. So gross. So I went into another shower. OMG the same thing..ALL OF THE SHOWER CURTAINS WERE RUSTY, YELLOWED IN COLOR, DIRTY, FLOORS, TILES, WALLS ALL FILTHY. Shower curtains can be purchased for $1.00 at dollar tree..LA Fitness Deerfield spend $8 and buy new ones.. Oh prob worse in mens locker room.
I of course looked at the vents in the locker room since just saw the pool area ones clogged and of course the same. I sat down next to the TV for a few minutes to make a call and the chairs had trash, were ripped in corners & dirty also. No surprise since in locker room. Is this not the place one is to get clean and feel refreshed??? I think every person that visits this facility is NOT getting healthy, but most likely will get sick. Thanks to a Walgreens and CVS next door one should get a flu shot before walking inside this LA Fitness in Deerfield Beach.. FYI- It is on Hillsboro Beach Blvd & Federal Hwy. 33441 zip code. The management should be ashamed of the deterating, dirty, unhealthy facility. Having such a beautiful beach nearby, snowbirds, spring breakers, visitors all year and people moving down for new jobs and college there is a good chance someone like me would want to possibly join. As I left the other day, I mentioned it to the guy in the front. He just said, Oh, ok I will mention it to the manager. No, Oh we are in repair, or We are not aware of this.
No explaination. I assume they are used to people canceling membership and their lack of upkeep and therefore keeping down their costs will cover all the future members or current that get tired of working out at a dirty location or look for apprecaition & respect of paying customers. Sad since I am down here full time now and was excited to see one near a beach and my home.
They have a great way to get you to sign up, try to get you to sign a contract, so you still will have to pay..but if anyone were to look around before signing up..you never would. The entrance looks clean & classes full so one would think the place is good. After being in the locker room, pool and taking a class on dirty mats and floors no one who really cares about good health would continue. I hope this is a wake up call for LA Fitness in DB, helps people out there to go somewhere else..and above all gets a BIG message to the manager,,if you want regular customers clean up the place. I am joining a gym I can feel better at and dont have to close my eyes to hide the dirt away.
Watch out if you go here..Get a flu shot first or dont wear your glasses or contacts if you wear them.

Since LA Finess opened in Smithtown, NY they are out of soap nearly daily. When I ask the bathroom cleaning staff how they still can be without soap as they have been open at least 6 months. They response I received was "we never have soap, why is it a problem". The same with toilet paper. We are fortunate if we have toilet paper in at least one stall. Hand drying towels also are their on a limited basis.
I don't think it is asking to much for simple needs, paper and soap.

The employees are not accountable.

When I asked to be scheduled for personal training on a certain day they said yes then didn't schedule it (my first time). Wanted me to come back at a time I could not do. They run the place for their convenience not the member. I am really sorry I got involved with this place. I am thinking small claims court if they try to make me stay. They have screwed up at least three times with the scheduling and no one is there who can fix it, according to the people on duty. What a rip off.

I am a member and use the facility on flamingo road and sheridan street in pembroke pines florida. the television sets need to be serviced and/or replaced. I have brought this to their attention several times and they told me to contact the corporate headquarters. I enjoy the club and wish to continue please take care of this problem

This place is terrible. I was at my gym for a year with no problems and all of a sudden LA Fitness bought it and what do you know they're stealing my money for personal training that I didn't want! This place is just awful I'm disgusted at the type of people they have working there.

West Covina, CA, LA Fitness Assestment

Finally this gym has become a decent operational facility. Everything is working properly for now. I hope this great effort will continue for awhile. I don't mean just a couple months.

L.A. Fitness in Temecula needs to be reported to the Health Department. The bathrooms smell like mold, the showers are not clean in the a.m., the wallpaper is dingy - not to mention a lot of the equipment is broken. They only care about the mighty dollar - not the people using the gym.

Have only been a member of la fitness for a few months as my previous gym lifestyles was bought out in Tampa, but have to comment on how bad LA FITNESS is.

By buying out lifestyles and ballys they (LA Fitness)have created overcrowed gyms on the Anderson and Lutz/Dale Mabry locations. It's almost impossible to use any of the machines in the evening times when I am able to go to the gym.

It is so overcrowded at the Lutz/Dale Mabry location that they are now using the Racquetball courts to conduct personal training, which caused quite a scene between one of the staff members and gym members as the racquetball courts are extremely busy during the evening hours.

Do not have much hope for this gym as it seems like they have created a little monopoly in Tampa and a take it or leave attitude from the gym seems to be the norm now.

Don't get sucked in!

LA Fitness is another gym with horrible qualities. They suck people in with free "trial memberships" and once you sign a contract, you're pretty much in for the long haul. They tell you that you can cancel anytime, but they don't make it easy for you to do so. And if you don't cancel before your membership ends, they will still charge your credit card, regardless if you still use the gym or not. The facilities are not kept up and are usually trashed. The equipment half the time is being "worked on", usually for weeks or maybe not even ever fixed. The personal trainer rates are outrageous for the service you receive. Avoid signing contracts and especially giving them your credit card information, because you will have a hard time ending the contract and having them not charge you without your consent. I wish the BBB would shut these cash cow companies down!

King Of Prussia gym is a dump. It hasn't been updated in years. The spin bikes are old and rusty. Women's locker room dirty and no paper towels ever.
Why would anyone join that gym when there are better ones that are modern and clean. They should close it if they are not going to change it now that it is LA Fitness. Being a member for over 20 years, everyone I knew from there now go to other gyms. The area has a need for a good gym.
Wise up.

I just joined the LA Fitness a little less than a month ago in Rancho Cucamonga off of foothill and in that time I've worked out about 16 times and out of those 16 times I've been about to the sauna 3 times sucsessfully. The sauna is one things I look forwarded to doing every time I go to the gym and having not been able to do it on a daily bases is really irritating. My membership is only for this location so I'm stuck here. I'm not sure if its being worked on but when it's open it not hot.

Worst experience ever. Tucson Az central club Campbell and 1st. I belong to 24hr, Balley's and LA Fitness, as of today I am canceling my membership. The free weight room is 39 degrees, the music is lame love songs with zero motivation. The place before the renovation was so dirty, the sales people for training complete liars and on steroids to the point they walk around like there big and arrogant( at a real gym they would be puny). Trainers weak and lack knowledge, sales people walk around telling lies to new people, problem we as members always hear the lies.

TAKE MY ADVISE AVOID LA FITNESS!!!! Chuze, anytime fitness here I come.

I am a member of the LA Fitness Center in Broadview, IL. For over a week, the spa has been closed "indefinitely due to technical problems." A manager there told me it would be several weeks. I called corporate last week and they said, yes, a work order had been placed, but it should not take weeks. No one has a date when it will be open! Today, I arrived at the site at 7:00 a.m. to find the pool is now closed "indefinitely due to technical problems." Again, no one can give me a date when it will reopen. What is the reason for this? When I need a repair in my home, I always have a confirmed date from a repair service. Why don't your facilities have dates available? I know there are other locations nearby, but I am 73 and walk in the pool every day for an hour for arthritic problems. I do not appreciate in the least getting out in the cold, 17 today, to find the pool closed and the spa still out of order. There are a lot of unhappy people right now. What will prospective customers think? Many want to join as part of their new year's resolutions to stay fit. Please respond to this email, so I may pass on the information to the many others who have the same concern. My phone number is Carolyn Hammerschmitt

DO NOT GO WITH LA FITNESS!

You will think back to reading this and kick yourself if you do choose their gym. I have bee to over 3 locations and am stuck in a contract that I cannot get out of. I am treated rudely and constantly given programmed responses that allow them to make as many mistakes and not uphold their end of the contract. They continue to be rude and lie. The gyms themselves have uneducated trainers and lack of equipment, order, and knowledge. There are too many other options to go with rather than to try a corporation that has only money and greed in their minds. The customer is always wrong with them. I am confident this company will not outlast others like it!

LA FITNESS BOUGHT OUT ALL THE LIFESTYLES CLUBS IN OUR AREA. WE HAD TO RELOCATE TO LA. I AM A LONG TIME RACQUETBALL PLAYER AND CAN NOT BELIEVE THE LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM AND BASIC NEEDS MET AT THIS CLUB. NO COORDINATION ON COURT RESERVATIONS, LIGHTS THAT GO ON AND OFF DURING A GAME; DANGEROUS, ONE COURT DOOR WITHOUT A DOOR LATCH AND DOOR STAYS AJAR NOW FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, THIS WEEK HANGING LIGHT FIXTURE COVER WITH FLORSECENT BULBS EXPOSED INSIDE OF COURT, NO APPARENT CLEANING OF COURTS. THIS SUCKS AND WE CAN ALL SEE A LAW SUIT COMING! THE DESK PERSONELL SEEMS TO BE HAVE NO POWER TO DO ANYTHING. IF THERE WAS SOMEWHERE ELSE TO JOIN I WOULD NOT HESITATE.

This comment is about the Vista, CA location. The staff does not monitor if someone showers before entering the pool and or spa, what they are wearing (personally saw a man go into spa with just tighty whitey's. Wednesday they allowed a man with large open sores go into the spa and pool. I talked to the redhead at the front desk and she said there was nothing to be concerned about. When I see the note from his doctor I guess I will feel its safe to go back in the water.

I am a member at the Bolingbrook, IL. facility. My car was broken in to on 10/1 my purse and phone were taken. It was 11am and I was parked right in front of the door. The same week lockers were broken in to and wallets stolen. Police reports have been filed. There is NO security at this gym-likely not at any of their gyms. You can't leave your belongings in your car and can't take them in. I had the same experience as another member complaining on this site-I want to file a claim and was told "you can't-they won't let you". Easy for them to try to brush responsibility off and hope I will go away. Of course they have responsibility to provide a secure environment for their members.

LA Fitness Camp Creek Parkway in Atlanta, GA -- overhead music is far too loud. I have to blast the music in order for me me to hear my own music on my headset. And yesterday (Monday, 10/15) they decided to have a live DJ -- no warning -- who also blasted the music so loud, you couldn't even have a conversation!!! This riduclously loud music will prove to be a liability for L Fitness!!!

LA Fitness has to be the worst gym club to be a part of. I would never recommend anyone to this club. The gym conditions are terrible...a/c has been broken for over 4 months, in several periods throughout the year. there are leaks everywhere. The water foutains pour out hot water. About 25% of the machines are not working properly. I had my payment option revised with someone at the club and they didn't revise it in the system until 4 months later. the customer service is awful...no one is helpful what so ever. Can't wait for my training contract to be over so i can get out of there. Which I have tried to cancel due to the unhealthy conditions the gym is in and I just also found out the my trainer was terminated and now I will have to train with someone new and most probably inexperienced. I will continue to spread the word out to everyone that this is the worst chains of gym. EVER. Anyone who is reading this DON'T sign up..all they care about is the money---they don't care about us -the members!

.... September 19th, 2012

Since LA Fitness has taken over lifestyles gym, it has been a disaster! They cut the commission of the trainers in half and didn't pay them so they left, they are not paying the instructors of the classes, so there are no more classes, they are cutting out silver sneakers, so they won't be there. What is left is a sorry excuse for a gym. No body that works in the gym knows what's going on.
I go to the gym expecting to go to a class, and there is none.
So why belong? It's a waste of money.

LA Fitness-Tampa, FL

This gym took a rapid nose-dive after LA fitness bought out Lifestyles. The Staff are rude and not at all concerned about the members. Classes have been eliminated w/o telling the members. Instructors that had been with Lifestyles for many years were let-go and replaced by less qualified instructors. I have been with Lifestyles for over 10 years at the same club and I am very, very disappointed with the new ownership.

Very rude and unprofessional manager and staff

I had membership with them for about three months. I joined mainly because of kids club. The staff that watches the kids are very rude, talk about your kids to other parents. They are not educated and just sit and text on their phone, while your kids do whatever. When i tried to talk to the manager, he was very rude, did not care about my concern.

Signature Club in Don Mills (Toronto) is a real DUMP

Been at this location for 2 years and each month it gets worse.

Tried working out this morning, could not find dumbells, barbells unless I walk all over this 65,000 s.f. facility. The trainers sometimes are worse than clients. They train their clienst then leave weights where they finished rather than rack them back where they got them.

Turnover in this place is a real joke - weekly and almost daily, but when they only pay trainers $18/hr. what can you expect. Head trainers get money under the table for allowing outside personal trainers to train thier clients at this gym.

The lockers rooms, toilets, showers are hit and miss. Up to about 2 months ago they were cleaned twice a day, now its only once a day if the cleaner shows up.

Always receive the same excuses for the front desk and anyone esle working here - "Sorry you are not happy - he quit last night" Sorry the lockers and showers are disgusting our underpaid cleaner also quit and we won't have a replacement for another week.

In the end, management has taked this Big Beautiful Place and destroyed it in under 2 years. What a shame!!

Longtime members treated poorly!

During the late 90s, I became a member of Australian Body Works in the Atlanta area, and remained a member when it was taken over by LA Fitness. As a longtime member (10+ years), I married, and added my husband as a family add on. My husband frequents locations almost daily, while I have dropped off over the last year.
Recently, I became motivated and ventured back to the gym, a decision I was very excited about. I was astonished, upon visiting the Windward Pkwy location, to find my membership had been cancelled. You see, last year, our credit card numbers were stolen, and we replaced them with new ones. Of course, my husband was informed shortly after, upon visiting the gym, that the card on file for the monthly membership was declined, and he updated the account with new information. Unfortunately, the update was only applied to his membership - even though he was on my membership. We continued on for the next 10 months, thinking all was fine, until I tried using my barcode this week. That is when I was informed that not only was my membership of over 10+ years revoked, but I would have to pay an initiation fee of $199, plus a higher monthly rate. Even as I write this, Im shaking my head. No letter, no call, nothing to let us know there was a problem with the account. Again, I reiterate, my husband (a family add on), frequents the gym almost daily. How hard is it to check, before entering that a membership is revoked, to see who else is on the account, if it is still in use, how long the individual has been a member, if there had ever been a past problem with the account etcetera. If my place of employment conducted business in the same manner, we would not be a global company today. There is no business without your customers.
Fair being fair, I offered to pay for the 10 months that have passed, just to get my membership reinstated only to be told no, the $199 fee would need to apply, plus the higher monthly rate. I tried to explain that another facility would be able to accommodate myself, husband and two children for nearly the same cost as this outrageous new offer, and was told by one of the sales staff, maybe you should go there and be happy. Nice treatment of a longtime member, wouldnt you say?
I want to be clear on one point; I did not enter the gym on that day to threaten moving to another gym. As a matter of fact, I offered to pay the declined charges as a good faith effort, and that was met with an improper response from the sales representative.
I have shared my story around our building, and to my surprise was greeted with similar stories of former LA Fitness members. Reaching out to friends on Facebook, a friend offered a one week pass to her new gym. Again, similar stories of were posted, one after the other by former members. This maybe, could explain why, a gym that used to be jammed packed during lunch hour was nearly empty on my recent visit.
I was hoping for a different outcome. Today, I was contacted by operations, and was told there was nothing that could be done for me. As a result, LA Fitness will lose two members, as my husband will come with me. My thoughts, as I conclude are that maybe this communication will raise awareness about customer interaction/satisfaction. In this economy, no business can afford to lose business.

.... February 27th, 2012

Buyer Beware!

Buyer Beware -Horrible experience!! It is probably the most unethical fitness facility. We became members and the sales agents signed us up for personal training sessions which we found we could never use because one most of the trainers are not well trained themselves and two the ones who are trained are never available. The sales agent told me we could cancel at any time which I found when we went to cancel is untrue because they suddenly show you the fine print which says to cancel you owe them 50% of the balance - something they never tell you when they make you sign up. They have no customer service and are most unprofessional. Makes one wonder what the health of American business is today.

General Manager in Ocoee Florida.
1560 silver Star Rd
Ocoee Fl 34761

The GM did not honor what his team told a prospect. When I asked if they offer 1 free workout to see if I like the gym the women stated that they do. I drove to the the gym where I was greeted by Arnell(GM)rude manager. He stated that they do not do that after one of his staff said different. When I stated that he was losing business, he replied with "its not about losing business, I have enough business". In an economy like this I am astonished that he doesn't need any more $$$$$. Arnell argued and would not let me speak. I will spread the word that this is not a good establishment to frequent. To those of you who are waiting on the new LA Fitness in Dr. Philips to open, please do not wait. Will never be back. Arnell is no good.

I have be working out for 2 decades . This is by far the worst gym I have trained at....it's messy there is no one looking after the members making sure they put their weights away... There is garbage on the floor , sweat on the machines, 45 lb plates stacked on the chest, leg, back and shoulder machines... Many of my friends have left to a different gym and/ or location and I soon will follow... Disgusting unkept gym... Do not recommend

Great gyms

LA fitness is a great place to work out. It is always nice and clean and their childcare is great. The machines are in good shape and they are always kept up to date.

.... November 20th, 2011

The location is League City, TX is apoling at best. This facility is discusting and filthy every single day. The issues range from rusted equipment to unsanitary conditions. Chalk all over the floor and on equipment, garbage on the floors, weights all over the place on the floor, garbage not being emptied, bad unsanitary smell, and dirty bathrooms and locker rooms. This is by far the worst LA Fitness I have ever been to. Also when members arrive you might get greeted on rare occasion. This is what happens when you have kids running a business.

Ok, not great.
I'd look around first.

I have been a member of an LA Fitness near my home since it opened about 6 years ago. For the most part, I am fairly happy with it, but I see so many places where it could be run SO much better! Apparently, employees don't stay happy long either. Not one person is still there from when we signed up! My gym always seems warm, the TVs are all tuned to various news channels, and one of the stations has no sound. We got several new eliptical machines in that are made to support ipods, etc, but were never set up. They sure want your membership and your credit card, but don't expect any genuine customer service. There's no such thing on their website, it only directs you back to your own club!
