One star
I do not recommend this antivirus at all. it does not work well and at the same time it slows down the system.

Just all-around terrible software.
Similar to Internet Explorer, McAfee is just software that comes installed by default on your device that you should immediately replace with better (and still free) replacements. In this case, it would be Microsoft Security Essentials.

Quite the contrived farce.
Back when I foolishly used McAfee, so often it would inexplicably make other applications stop working by marking specific files being used as false positives. Combined with an abysmal graphical layout, it really means you should uninstall this abomination straight away!

NEVER buy or put on your computer McAfee!I have removed it from all computers I owned.Now the laptop I own will have to go to the shop because I removed McAfee from the control panel instead of using the removal tool.When I removed it with the removal tool, it wanted me to restart my computer and it never came on again!!!

I have a new HP Touchsmart Computer. I downloaded the free trail, and shortly afterwords, weird sounds and audio clips would randomly spew out of my computer's speakers. This happened all the time, even in the middle of the night, and there was no way to stop it. I uninstalled this, as it was the only thing I had recently downloaded, and the annoying sounds ceased. When I contacted them, they were very rude, and told me it wasn't the program. Very disappointed, I'd rather go back to Norton with all its annoying pop-ups again than this.

Have they ever heard of user interactability?
Eats up CPU like a starving hog, repeatedly flags safe files as threats, Frequently undoes changes that I make for no good reason, really bad product.

Net Guard A Pain
The McAfee Net Guard feature has been a real pain. 4 times in the past 2 weeks it has blocked my AOLTopspeed program, preventing AOL from working. Each time I go in to McAfee and change the "block" to "allow." Telephone tech support is a joke. I have also sent emails asking the Net Guard feature to be fixed, but nothing happens. Each time I get a message that it is blocking Topspeed, I have to sign off AOL, go into McAfee and change the setting to "allow.". The Net Guard is worse than a virus! I have been with McAfee for 7 years but will not renew my subscription again due to this problem. Have any other AOL users had the same problem??

OMG it gave my computer a virus and they do nothing about it!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been running mc afee for a few years. It was time to re new so I went on line to do 3 computers. 1 of the downloads had a virus in it. My computer is trashed. I have an IT guy coming to replace it. This will cost about 3 days work and a new computer. The virus was with the product. They take no responsibility for it. I will never use them again and plan to talk to an attorney to see if there is any thing I can do.

frequent false positives
catches these random innocent files that aren't viruses and deletes them without asking. pathetic user interface.

I am sick of every morning a fricking update on my computer while i am trying to get on online. why do i set the time for the updates at 3am and they don't happen until i turn the computer on. i have attempted to get on line now for 25 minutes but because the update crap is running, it absolutely won't let me in the computer. i am sick of it. and sick that there isn't an easier way of getting to somebody's attention. either change it or i will not renew the subscription.

Slows down computer
When I had McAfee, it slowed down my computer so much, it was almost a virus in and of itself. I stick with AVG now, which seems to do just as good a job, doesn't slow my computer down, and is free! You also don't get bombarded with ads and renewals.Anonymous-29563.... May 26th, 2011
i acquired Mcafee last week via the (UK) SKY broadband recommendation . within 3 days i aquired some malware 'xp antispyware' effectively killing my internet activity .
i found it impossible to find any contact or help from SKY or Mcafee .
i would not recommend Mcafee for those reasons .

McAfee has been doing searches many times a day. During that time, I can not do anything on the internet, or even on the computer! It usually takes up to 30 minutes to finish. Why would it keep me from doing any thing on the internet? So many checks with accessiblity to both computer and internet being so greatly reduced has me wondering about the validity of the service.
Now I am getting a message to renew. I am checking to see if the message is valid.

Why do you have to pay a tech support person to help with something you have already paid for. I have been trying to connect to Mcafee to activate my security CD since Sunday and all they want is money, money, money.
