Pep Boys Ripped me off and Customer Support could care less

I now have to pay 1250.00 for a job that Pep Boys messed up by fixing a part that did not need to be fixed. I took my car into pep boys because of steam from hood of car. I was in their store for 6 hours i walked around and saw the techs just hanging out around my car chit chatting before they came and told me i needed to replace a water-pump. Turns out i did not need a water pump i needed a bigger job done and instead of them doing the diagnostic and letting me know what real problem was they took advantage of the fact i was female with a kid and charged me to fix a problem that did not need to be fixed. i went to two other auto shops that looked at my car and both places said pep boys ripped me off and did a lazy job of even fixing water pump. they replaced the old clamps back on which now the hoses are corroded and need to be replaced they did not replace the gasket behind the water pump. I escalated this issue in June and heared nothing back so called them and customer service agent says your claim has been denied. i asked why and when were they gonna call me like they said she says we mailed you a letter. She could not tell me why. no one else to talk too. they never spoke with me or asked for the proof I had gotten in writing from two other auto shops. I sent 6 emails with no response back. No letter and no explanation as to why they would allow a store to fix a part that was not broken in the first place and charge me over 500.00 for. Not to mention it was a 99.00 part all rest was labor which from what i have in writing there was none. Lazy job on something just to charge and take advantage of a customer. this is not right and they need to here this. Yet they ignore me. They are ok with the company ripping customers off.

I should never have allowed pep-boys Jr. mechanics to touch my 2000 Honda Accord, I went in for a simple oil change, they said some of the seals were worn and needed to be replaced...never telling me(until they pulled off the old seals, and then it was too late) that once they replaced those seals it would cause a domino effect to the rest of the seals, and now the manager says it's NOT their fault and they're not responsible. These guys are just out to make a buck and don't give half a rats ass about who they're harming or the damage they are doing to vehicles, my mechanic is furious that they pulled those seals...for those of us who no nothing about cars and TRUST places like Pep-Boys, BEWARE, it's all about the production and how much they can make off of you, had they not told me that it was 'critical' to replace those seals I would have left and called my mechanic...lesson learned....I will NEVER go to PepBoys for anything, not even a simple oil change.

Just wanted to give you a heads up about the "new" manager at the Pep Boys Service Center on Floyd Road in Mableton, GA in front of the Publix.

They are currently doing a $900+ valve cover gasket replacement on the Sienna. This van has 150,000 miles on it...but it's a Toyota...so the engine still has a great deal of life left. ALL motors leak oil....ALL OF THEM. This car does not leak a measurable amount of oil (we're talking NOT measurable/ no drops in the driveway at all...nuttin')....not to warrant a $900 gasket job right now. Lauri had taken the car in and ...on their advice....let them do the work. I got wind of this and went over there yesterday. Not only are they doing needless work on the gaskets but have also thrown in a few extra "things" that needed to be done. In short...all cars need to have all kinds of work done on them all the time...it's a matter of how severe the problem is and some quick cost analysis on how urgently to proceed. Their "pitch" is the "it'll greatly extend the life of the engine if we do this" approach. That explanation covers just about every repair in the world. When I got there they had already done most of the work so to have them "undo" the work would be equally ridiculous....but it DID cross my mind!

Grant used to be the manager. He seemed to be a stand up guy...but he's gone because (to quote the current manager) "there were complaints about the level of customer service here". I've already called their corporate offices to let them know the ethics of the current manager toward the old manager.

I told the manager that if I wanted to get screwed on car repairs, I could have just taken the damn thing to Jacksons. At least Jackson offers you a snort of Schnapps when he give you HIS bill.

I told this manager that I knew exactly what kind of business he ran and was intimately familiar with his sales technique.. He was completely unphased. So....now they have my undivided attention

I had been taking my 1999 Bravada to Pep Boys in Niles Ohil for several months for tires and other small repairs. They informed me that I needed a tie rod repaired as well as something done to a engine intake valve. Total cost for all was just over $3000.00. I had the tie rod and shocks done. Then a few months later had the engine repair done. I was willing to put money into it since it was paid off and I intended to keep it for at least another 2 yrs. Just shy of 2 weeks after the engine repair it started making a weird sound so I took it back to them. I was told the engine was bad and needed replaced at a cost of $4000.00. I ended up getting a used engine put in and the guy that did it suggested that something had gone wrong at Pep Boys that caused the issue. The problem was there was really no way to prove it. It is just very strange that the car was running fine till they worked on it. I will never let them touch another one of my cars.
