Ramada Shreveport Airport. NEVER AGAIN!!!

I drove 4 hours to attend a seminar for the weekend. Upon arrival, I checked in with the concierge and at first she was very polite and professional. After I received my room key, she explained how to get to my room... "You're going to have to drive all the way around to the back of the hotel and it's to the right, and it's in the very last building." I then asked her if there were bell carts so I could bring my luggage to my room. I also mentioned that I have 2 small children with me and that it would be very convenient to bring my luggage with me with a bell cart. She said that all of the carts were being used. She never offered for me to wait, she didn't think to possibly get another employee to maybe help me find one, instead, she got a little annoyed with me, and began to get catty. I did not appreciate the way she responded to me when she sarcastically apologized to me as if she were a child taunting another child. It really rubbed me the wrong way... however, I didn't let that get me down. I then got back into my truck and drove around to the back of the hotel as I was directed to.

As I pull around back, I'm thinking to myself that it is very very very dark back here. They have no street lights to help patrons find their way around. Not to mention, not very safe looking for a woman and her 2 toddlers. I grab my purse, the diaper bag, my 1 year old son, my 3 year old daughter, and start to hoof it to look for my room. I go in a building and see nothing but stairs and chairs. There were no room numbers in view to help me find my way. I go up the stairs...there were room numbers, just nowhere close to mine. I go down the stairs....mind you, I am toting my 1 year old son who is almost 40 pounds, 2 bags, and my daughter trailing behind who is still fairly new at climbing up and down stairs on her own. (God forbid she goes tumbling down them all because there were no room numbers in plain view like any NORMAL hotel would have.) I walk around for approximately 20-30 minutes, going in and out of doors, up an elevator, down an elevator, up more stairs, down more stairs, and to no avail, I still cannot find my room.

Exhausted, frustrated, and a little pissed off, I go to the front desk to tell the lady, with my kids in tote, that I cannot find my room. At this point, I am ready to cut my losses, pay almost triple what I would at the Ramada, and go next door to the Hilton where I know for certain I will get impeccable service. The concierge then tells me that she would show me where to go...I think a map would have given me better directions if I had one to begin with. By this time, I'm bawling my eyes out, stressed, tired, and I just want to get my kids in the bath, and get everyone to bed.

I finally get to the hallway that my room is in, there is wet carpet, and the overwhelming smell of mold and mildew. At this point, I am ready to turn around, get all my crap back in my truck, and just drive the 4 hours it takes to get back to my own home in Lafayette. Mind you, my entire city was flooded in August and it smells nothing like the horror I have experienced in the hallway to get to my room during this stay. I also had asked for a different room, and was denied because there are no others available. Just my luck, huh?

I find my room. I insert the the card. Lo and behold, my damn room key wont open the door. If you didn't think matters could get any worse... trust me, they do. I'm to the point where I am almost hysterically crying now. It's been about an hour since check in, and I'm still not even close to getting a good nights sleep. I call the concierge from my cell and let her know that my key doesn't work. She sends the maintenance guy to let me in my room... I don't know his name, but he was the most helpful person that I have encountered so far....and perhaps the nicest.

I see the end of my trek to get into the room, yet I am greeted with more surprises inside the room. First thing I do is run to my truck 3 different times to get the luggage I need. I unpack the necessities and hang my formal dress in the sliding closet which is also a mirror. Well, a very gentle touch of the mirror made it run off track. I had to fix it... Sure enough, it looks old and tattered with. Doesn't seem like it will stay the next time I open it, either.

My next mission is to get the kids a bath. I run them a warm bath and find that there is a white mat thingy stuck to the bottom of the tub. It seems like its one of those things that is to help you from slipping while taking a shower. I life up a corner, which seems to have been done numerous times by several people... guess what I find? Sure thing, there is a little bit of mold in there. Freaked out, I just take a shower with my kids. My son didn't like that too much. Maybe they would have gotten cleaner if we all jumped into the pool.

I like the lay out of the room. It's very spacious! I won't take that aspect for granted, however, this place needs a huge makeover. One of the lamps by the sofa doesn't work. There was humongous dead little friend next to it.... a spider. He will stay there until someone decides to vacuum him up, I guess. There is also a small roach that I killed underneath the alarm clock, too... he was scoping the place out as I type this. He was too quick for me to snap a photo.

I hope this gives you insight on what to look out for. I think by starting with the staff and retraining in customer service would make a difference and help with the overall feel of the place. I can look past missing a few spots when cleaning the rooms, but I can't forgive bad service. I understand that sometimes people have bad days, and I am guilty of the same things at times, yet when you see someone in need of help, and they are blatantly clear on as to why they need help, and if they are pretty much begging for your help, don't brush them off. I think anyone in customer service should go above and beyond when it comes to assisting others.

I think you should also improve the numbers on the outside of the buildings, inside the halls, and on doors. There is no way that I am the only person who has gotten this lost in this particular hotel.

Housekeeping practically non-existing

We stayed at the Ramada in Hendersonville NC Oct 16-19. First night: no housekeeping done, but our used towels were gone with no replacements. Second night: some housekeeping done but bed was not made up. Complained to the 7:00 am shift desk clerk, who was surly at best and helpful not at all. Place needs mgt attention re: housekeeping and customer care training.

I recently stayed at the Ramada inn in Flagstaff, AZ, did not book ahead of tiime and it was on a Saturday, the room was really bad, it did not have enough towels and I had to request more, the noise from the adjacent room from the shower was so loud it awoke me at 9:30 pm. the room was very run down, they chrged me $119. plus all the taxes totally $135. I could have booked same room online for $55.00 feel I was totally ripped off with bad room and bad service. Will not stay at a Ramada ever again. Anne Hammons

It's like a zoo in there.

It's quite amazing how one room that's being used to accomodate guests can have that many roaches and mice. Needless to say I only stayed there once.

Good Hotels

Ramada are usually in the upper side of mid-range hotels. They are generally clean, but the service quality can be variable.
